An inside look at Bobcat golfer Kameryn Basye
The Montana State women's golf team is about to get its 2022 spring schedule underway! In this "get to know" Q and A, we chat with Bozeman native Kameryn Basye.
Hometown: Bozeman, MT
Favorite Ice cream flavor: Vanilla
Fun fact about you: I didn't start playing golf until highschool, playing only basketball and softball
Favorite musical artist: Morgan Wallen
Favorite vacation spot: Arizona
Favorite athlete: Larry Fitzgerald
Favorite TV Show: The Blacklist
Favorite thing about golf: The challenge is always not having a perfect round. I'm competitive, so the desire to always do better. It is the most challenging sport I've ever played, and that's why I think I like it because you are always going to get better at some part of it.
Favorite course you've ever played on: Reserve at Moonlight (Cameron, MT)
Why MSU?: Bozeman is my hometown, and I was ready to come home [from Weber State]. The culture around MSU athletics and just the town support for the Bobcats was really appealing after I went to Weber State for a couple of years. I realized how much the community and people of Bozeman support Bobcat athletics is probably my favorite thing about it.
Was it easy to choose MSU after leaving Weber State: Yeah, I think I was definitely ready to come home when I had the opportunity to play here, and obviously, my mom is the coach, which is a dynamic people often wonder about, but it's honestly been good I've had the best season of my career past fall, so I am excited about the spring.
Favorite restaurant in Bozeman: Tanglewood Grill & Tap
Did you play any other sports as a kid: Basketball and Softball
At what point did you know golf was something you were good at and you wanted to pursue at the next level: I still wonder sometimes if I'm good at it, but I think in high school, finding something that was different that I didn't spend a lot of time on. Being able to focus on something new and challenging was really appealing. A couple of years in high school with just my mom it was something if I worked at it, I could play in college, and that was one of my goals to play a sport in college, so I thought golf would be my best bet and something I'd enjoy most.
Where have you seen the most growth in yourself since stepping foot at MSU: Mental attitude towards the game
What are your goals for the Spring 2022 season: For myself, a lower scoring average and as a team, improve and develop some of the younger players and hopefully win a tournament!
