BOBCATS BITES: Montana State - beginning with its Saturday game against Southern Utah - closes out the season playing five games in the next two weeks, the last four all on the road, at Portland State (Feb. 21), at Montana (Feb. 26), at Sacramento State (March 2), at Northern Colorado (March 4)...with two rebounds on Saturday, Montana State's Darian White will become the Bobcats' first true point-guard in program history to record over 1,000 points, 400 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals.
SCOUTING THE THUNDERBIRDS: Southern Utah enters Saturday's game 15-9 overall and 11-4 in Big Sky Conference play. The Thunderbirds did not play on Thursday, after defeating Northern Colorado, 77-53, in Cedar City on Monday night. In its win over the Bears, Southern Utah was paced by Darri Dotson with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Bobcats and Thunderbirds met nine days ago in Cedar City, with SUU taking a 70-60 overtime victory. The Cats held a 50-39 lead with 8:43 remaining, but the Thunderbirds rattled off a 19-8 run to force the extra period. In overtime, SUU went on a 10-0 run with 2:25 left to secure the win. Montana State was led by Taylor Janssen with a career-high 16 points, while Gabby Mocchi added 14. The T-Birds were paced by Cherita Daugherty and Daylani Ballena with 19 and 15 points, respectively. On the season, SUU has been led in scoring by Daugherty (10.6 ppg), Dotson (10.5 ppg) and Ballena (10.3 ppg). Under the glass, Dotson (8.2 rpg) and Lizzy Williamson (8.1 rpg) rank fourth and fifth in the Big Sky, respectively.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS: Portland State plays Montana on Saturday in the Rose City before meeting the Bobcats on Monday. The Vikings (5-16, 0-13) had three games postponed - Feb. 10 vs. MSU, Feb. 12 vs. UM, Feb. 14 vs. Idaho- before returning to the hardwood at Northern Arizona on Thursday night, where it dropped a 94-66 decision to the Lumberjacks. Against NAU, the Vikings were led by Esmeralda Morales and Alaya Fitzgerald with 24 and 12 points, respectively. Morales (12.1 ppg), Fitzgerald (10.6 ppg), along with Jada Lewis (10.3 ppg) and Savanah Dhaliwal (10 ppg) make-up 71% of Portland State's offensive production. In its first meeting with MSU, the Vikings were led by Lewis with 18 points, which included a 5 of 7 effort from beyond the arc. Kola Bad Bear and Darian White led MSU with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
