Montana State held a 12-point lead at the 4:26 mark of the third quarter on a Madison Jackson triple and the Bobcats owned a 44-37 cushion heading into the final period.
Southern Utah's Cherita Daugherty converted two free throws with just under two minutes remaining in overtime to break a 60-60 tie and launch a 10-0 game-ending run in the Thunderbirds' 70-60 victory over Montana State in Cedar City on Thursday.
After Daugherty's free throws she recorded a steal, and Daylani Ballena's layup gave SUU a 64-60 lead. After a missed shot by the Bobcats, Daugherty converted a conventional three-point play, and Southern Utah hit three free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win.
The Bobcats led through much of the first three quarters. Ava Ranson's triple with two minutes remaining in the first quarter gave the Cats a 10-8 lead, and the team led by 11 with 8:43 remaining in the game.
