BOBCAT GAME DAY NOTEBOOK #8: Something's Got To Give

The longest road winning streak in the FCS runs headlong into the top home win streak
The Bobcats lost two more key offensive players on Saturday, raising to five the number of offensive starters the Bobcats will be without against fifth-ranked Weber State on Saturday.
Receiver Clevan Thomas Jr. is sidelined for Saturday's game due to a compliance issue relating to his time at Kentucky. Quarterback Sean Chambers aggravated an existing injury in practice this week. Taco Dowler starts for Thomas, while Sean Austin moves into the depth chart at quarterback.
Those two join starting offensive linemen Cole Sain and Marcus Wehr, who were lost during last week's game. Starting running back Isaiah Ifanse is also out for at least a couple more games

The longest home and longest road winning streaks run headlong into each other today in Bobcat Stadium when Montana State hosts Weber State at 1 pm.
The Bobcats own 16 straight home victories, tied for the most in program history and the longest current home streak in the FCS. On the opposite sideline stands Weber State with eight straight road wins. That also is the longest active streak in the FCS. The Wildcats' last road loss was a season-opening defeat at Utah in 2021, and the streak includes a win at FBS Utah State this season.
Bobcat head coach Brent Vigen says that while the streak itself doesn't matter, playing in Bobcat Stadium does.
"I think the environment would be something like what (Weber State) faced at Utah State," Vigen said. "That's a tight venue and it can get loud. I don't think there's an intimidation factor or anything like that, but the noise is something you have to prepare for and deal with during the game. It can affect your operation."

Jacob Kettels makes his first career start for the Bobcats today, and it's been a long path from can't-miss offensive line prospect to always-injured reserve lineman to Bobcat starter. He arrived in Bozeman in January, 2020, from the same town that produced Bobcat All-America Bryce Sterk, and immediately turned heads with his athleticism and intelligence. Not long after, though, the injuries began. He missed all of 2021.
But Kettels has persevered, and among his rewards is today's start. He replaces sophomore Marcus Wehr, who was lost for the season during the game in Greeley last week, at right tackle.

Omar Aigbedion joins the starting from the other end of the spectrum from Kettels. The freshman from Katy, Texas, was at the Army Prep Academy last year, and has flashed throughout his first season at Montana State. Today marks his second start at MSU.
