MSU Distance Runners Open Cross Country at Bobcat Time Trials

Bobcat distance runners competed in a time trial race against runners from Montana Tech on Dyche Field to open the cross country season on Friday

BOZEMAN -- The Montana State cross country team hosted Montana Tech this past Friday evening for a time trials race on Dyche Field. The Bobcats and Diggers opened the cross country slate by each competing in 5-kilometer races.

The men's competition featured MSU athletes taking the top three individual spots and seven of the Bobcats' attached runners finished in the top eight overall.

Duncan Hamilton led the way crossing the finish line with a time of 14 minutes, 40.97 seconds. He was followed by Ben Perrin (15:03.82) and Levi Taylor (15:17.00). MSU's scoring lineup featured a fifth-place finish by Matthew Richtman (15:23.22)and a sixth-place showing by Rob McManus (15:31.23). Cooper West placed seventh (15:41.98), Riley Collins took eighth (15:48.58) and Owen Smith finished 10th (16:15.36) to round on the Bobcat men's 2021 debut.

MSU's women's squad was led by Camila Noe and Elena Vandersloot. Noe took the top individual spot by clocking a mark of 17:19.57, while Elena Vandersloot registered a time of 18:25.35. Montana Tech's Becca Richtman took the third spot less than three seconds behind Vandersloot, but the Bobcats would have the next seven finishers in the 5K race.

Hannah Perrin (18:37.04), Mya Dube (18:40.20) and Lauren Stanford (18:47.24) rounded out the Bobcat women's scoring lineup. Alex Moore (19:07.09) finished seventh, Kendra Lusk (19:12.40) placed eighth, Samantha Kelderman (19:17.25) took ninth and Grace Gilbreth (19:33.07) finished in 10th place. Also appearing in the race for the Bobcats were Natalie McCormick (19:37.44), Riley Moore (21:21.01), Sierra Read (21.22:46) and Megan Good (21:27.12).

MSU's men's squad outscored Montana Tech 15-50, while the Bobcat women earned an 18-45 score over the Diggers.

Montana State returns to competition on Saturday, Sept. 18, when the Bobcats host the MSU Cross Country Classic. The races scheduled at Bridger Creek Golf Course are slated to begin at 9 a.m.
