A look back at Montana State's season opener in Laramie
Wyoming 19, Montana State 16 * September 4, 2021 * Laramie, Wyoming
NOTES
• Isaiah Ifanse rushed for 103 yards at Wyoming, his ninth career 100-yard game and the first by a Bobcat against an FBS opponent since Chad Newell at Idaho in 2016. That performance by Newell also came in a head coaching debut (by Jeff Choate).
• After allowing Texas Tech 35 first downs in the 2019 season opener, the Bobcats surrendered just 17 to Wyoming on Saturday.
• The 19 points Montana State allowed at Wyoming was the fewest against an FBS opponent since Montana State's 19-10 win at Colorado in 2006.
• The Cats now stand 6-14 against Wyoming all-time, 0-4 in season openers, and 0-2 when opening a campaign after not playing the previous year.
• Blake Glessner's 53-yard field goal at Wyoming is tied as the sixth-longest in Bobcat history, and is the school's longest by a freshman.
• Jeffrey Manning's interception Saturday marked the third time this century that a Bobcat making his program debut picked off a pass (joining CJ Adkins in 2000 and Jahque Alleyne in 2018).
STAT SNIPPETS
Matthew McKay's 200 passing yards Saturday marked the first time a Bobcat has hit that benchmark in a season opener since Dakota Prukop threw for 258 against Fort Lewis in 2015, and the first time against Division I competition since DeNarius McGhee's 268 yards as a senior in 2013 against Monmouth. McKay's 200 yards is the ninth-most by a Bobcat signal caller in his starting debut in the last 30 years, and the third-most against an FBS/I-A foe (Cory Carpenter, 228 vs. Colorado, 2006, and Kelly Sherwin, 217 vs. Washington State, 1986).
