Former Wyoming and NDSU assistant becomes Montana State's 33rd head football coach
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State University officially welcomes new head football coach Brent Vigen to the Bobcat family on Tuesday, February 16, at 11 am.
The closed event will feature introductory comments from MSU President Waded Cruzado, Director of Athletics Leon Costello, and Vigen, who will also take questions from local media members. The event will be streamed live through the Bobcat Athletics YouTube channel.
The offensive coordinator at Wyoming since 2014, Vigen played tight end at North Dakota State (1993-97), then joined the Bison coaching staff. He remained at his alma mater through the 2013 season, when head coach Craig Bohl took a similar position at Wyoming.
In his time with Bohl at both North Dakota State and Wyoming, Vigen built a reputation for his work grooming quarterbacks. He mentored two-time Great West Offensive Player of the Year Steve Walker (2006-07) and Missouri Valley Offensive Player of the Year Brock Jensen (2013) at NDSU, worked with future NFL quarterback Carson Wentz during his early years in the Bison program, and also recruited and developed current Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen (2015-17).
Vigen helms a Bobcat program that claimed three Big Sky Championships in its most recent 10 seasons, with six FCS Playoff appearances. The Cats advanced to the FCS Semifinals in 2019, the team's deepest playoff run since the 1984 National Championship.
