Cats, Griz get together in historic encounter on Saturday
BOZEMAN, Mont. (December 20, 2025) – The Bobcat football family lost a legend this week when Don Hass, the famed "Iron Tumbleweed", passed away in Oklahoma.
Hass' legendary Bobcat career (1965-67) resulted ended with the retirement of his number and a spot at the top of all the school's rushing records. He was an All-America, spent time with the Chargers, and remained one of the school's legends throughout the years.
"Donny is one of the greats to ever play at Montana State," said fellow Bobcat Athletics Hall of Famer Dennis Erickson.
Hass' 146.0 yards per game in 1966 remains a Bobcat record. Befitting today's occasion, Hass rushed for 467 yards in three games against the Grizzlies.

The 125th Cat-Griz game is unlike any other, standing as one team's entry to the FCS Championship in Nashville on January 5. It's also the first post-season meeting ever between the teams, and the first time the ancient rivals meet twice in one season since 1913.

Caden Dowler's pick-six in the first meeting between these teams was a pivot point in the game. The team's 15 interceptions is sixth in the FCS and the most by a Bobcat team since 1993.

Kenneth Eiden IV has 7.5 sacks in 10 career playoff games, and seven sacks in the most recent six games.
