Don’t let Lexi Goroski’s big smile fool you. Under that big grin is a fiery competitor that plays every point with reckless abandon.
Every Friday from now until the beginning of the volleyball season will we spotlight a member of the Bobcat volleyball program. Now up: Lexi Goroski.
Don't let Alexis Goroski's big smile fool you. Under that big grin is a fiery competitor that plays every point with reckless abandon. As she enters her senior year, Goroski will battle to fill the shoes of former Bobcat standout and Big Sky Conference Libero of the Year Allyssa Rizzo. However the libero position plays out this fall, the sure thing is that Goroski will be on the floor keeping MSU in rallies with her defensive prowess or by scoring points as one of the best servers on the team.
CATCHING UP WITH LEXIE:
1). Can you give us an update on your current status?
I am currently in Bozeman really enjoying life and finding all sorts of things to do to keep me busy while I'm missing volleyball and my teammates. I have been hiking a ton since I've been here and playing a lot of yard games like cornhole, spikeball, and peppering with the volleyball! As crazy and uncertain as things have been I moved past the stir crazy phase and allowed myself to sit down and begin painting and doing projects again, which are things I haven't really had time to get into after high school, so that has been super cool!
2). How do you think the spring volleyball season was progressing before everything shut down?
Thinking about how much we were learning and growing as a team during the spring season makes me so stoked to play beside these girls again this summer. Just to give a simple explanation about the purpose of spring ball it's this: you walk into the gym every morning (tired or not) and you work on your craft, you fail thousands of times to get that one positive outcome (the dim light at the end of the tunnel) from one small success you keep building until this new technique or skill or adjustment is solidified. Obviously, sometimes this is a little easier said than done, but when you're surrounded by this selfless group of girls and staff, progress is inevitable. Before our spring season came to an end the team was cohesive, like gorilla glue or something you couldn't drive a wedge between us. In practice we drilled skill and focus intensive drills, to work on our volleyball IQ when the rally's get long and the energy begins to drain, kind of a do your job and do it well, so my teammate next to me can do her job to the best of her ability as well.
3). What are your goals heading into the fall and what are the expectations for the team?
My goal for myself and for my teammates is to always give one-percent more. In any way I can help my team I will do it to the best of my abilities and then some. The fall this year will be different than any season we have had in the past for sure, but that doesn't change our team's focus one bit. Every game we walk into we are bought into every point, every set, every match and the same goes for practice. This team is wicked talented and ridiculously committed to this program and making our supporters proud, so we will keep grinding to raise that bar and make this a season to remember.
HEAD COACH DANIEL JONES ON LEXIE GOROSKI:
"Lex has had a big impact on this program in the past four years. She has constantly embraced her role coming off the bench and having a huge impact on matches. We can rely on her serve, scoring points 2-3 times a match at a minimum, which is huge. When she's not scoring points, she's knocking the other team out of system and giving us a 'head start' in the defensive battle. I'm excited to see her and the other liberos battle it out this year for that starting role. I have no doubt she is capable of stepping into (Allyssa) Rizzo's shoes. Every time I think about that battle, it's probably the one that gets me most excited as Lex and all our liberos are competitors. I can't wait to get back in the gym and see how that plays out."
