Junior Adams arrived at MSU just in time to help jolt the Bobcats to life
MAY 23: Each day until Montana State's 2019 season opener the staff of Bobcats By The Numbers will offer a look at one of the players to make one of the school's all-time teams, in alphabetical order. On November 21, 1933, The Exponent announced 37 players selected by a panel of former players and coaches, divided into three teams that comprised Montana State's "mythical" all-time team. In 1969, the Billings Gazette's Norm Clarke conducted a poll to select the school's all-time team, and again in 2000 Bobcat Athletics and the Billings Gazette selected a third all-time team. The BBTN staff added players from the 21st century.
Junior Adams, WR, 2001-02
5-9, 168, Fremont, CA
ALL-TIME TEAM: 21st Century Selection
HONORS: 2002 – HM All-America, 1st Team All-Big Sky WR/RS; 2001 – 2nd Team All-Big Sky WR/RS.
A CLOSER LOOK: On the heels of Montana State's 0-11 season in 2000, Mike Kramer knew he needed to jolt his program to life. A talented core of young players needed buttressing by experienced talent. That fortification came from a pair of Oregon State transfers, ebullient quarterback Tyler Thomas and initially-quiet receiver Junior Adams. A Bay area product, Adams hinted at brilliance from the beginning, but when he caught 153 yards worth of passes and returned a punt 57 yards for a touchdown against Weber State to help MSU snap its 18-game losing streak, Bobcat fans knew they had something special. Adams finished his Bobcat career with 106 catches and 1,635 receiving yards, but the one that will never be forgotten was the 53-yarder from Travis Lulay on a blustery afternoon in Missoula in 2002 that ended 16 years of frustration, boosted the Bobcats to a win over the Grizzlies, and lifted MSU to its first Big Sky Championship since 1984. Adams became a go-to receiver for Travis Lulay when the freshman phenom took control of the MSU program upon his promotion to starting quarterback midway through the 2002 season, in addition to being a dangerous return man. Adams provided the Bobcat program a jolt of energy and excitement upon arriving, and helped lead a revival of Montana State football. He was a fan favorite then, and remains a beloved Bobcat.
FROM MIKE KRAMER: "What can you say about Junior Adams? He is a big-play, big-time receiver who is a threat to score whenever he touches the ball. He is an integral part of our offense, and the emergence of several other receivers should make accounting for Junior even more important and more difficult for opposing defenses." 2002 Bobcat Football Media Guide
