Montana State linebackers Troy Andersen and Amandre Williams each intercepted a pass
A quick look at Montana State's 42-7 win over Southern Utah on Saturday...
PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATIONS
DEFENSE: Troy Andersen, LB (6-4, 233, Jr, Dillon, Montana)
Junior linebacker Troy Andersen enjoyed his most impactful day as a defensive player, recording eight tackles, three for a loss, with two sacks. He also intercepted a pass and broke up another in Montana State's 42-7 win over Southern Utah. Andersen helped lead a defensive effort that limited the Thunderbirds to seven points and 242 yards one week after they scored 59 points. The junior from Dillon, Montana, set the tone for the day on Southern Utah's first scrimmage play, sacking SUU quarterback Chris Helbig. He also helped terminate that drive with an assisted tackle on third down. Four of Andersen's tackles, and two of the sacks, came in the first quarter as the Cats built a 21-0 lead. In the last three games Andersen has 24 tackles, 6.5 for a loss, 4.5 sacks, a pass breakup, and an interception.
FRESHMAN: Derryk Snell, TE (6-4, 245, Fr, Anchorage, Alaska)
After a week when Jeff Choate talked about diversifying Montana State's offense, freshman tight end Derryk Snell caught three passes – doubling his season total – and scoring his first touchdown in the 42-7 Bobcat win over Southern Utah. With the Bobcats leading 21-0, Snell's first career touchdown catch came on the fourth play of the second quarter. Quarterback Tucker Rovig found Snell alone in the end zone on a 10-yard pass. Snell is the only MSU tight end to catch a pass this season, and he has also been instrumental in the Bobcat ground game – which averages 5.4 yards a play and 236.0 yards per game – as a blocker.
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN: Mitch Brott, OT (6-6, 300, Sr, Billings, Montana)
Mitch Brott started his 44th consecutive game on Saturday, the sixth-longest starting streak and ninth-most starts in Bobcat history, in Montana State's 42-7 win over Southern Utah on Saturday. Brott helped spear an 205-yard rushing effort by the Cats while the offensive line didn't allow a sack. MSU has averaged 257 yards rushing in the last five games while allowing just nine opponent sacks in nine games this season. Brott has started every game of his Bobcat career.
