Montana State freshman Camila Noe heads into her final meet of her stellar first season for the Bobcat cross country team by competing in the NCAA Championships on Saturday. The women's 6-kilometer championship race begins at 9:15 a.m. MDT in Terre Haute, Indiana, at Indiana State's LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course.
Noe will be the seventh Bobcat women's runner to participate at the NCAA Championships and first since Heather Demorest took 58th at the meet in 2013. MSU's highest ever finisher at the championship was Annette Hand. She was MSU's first ever women's qualifier for the meet and placed 29th overall in 1985.
The Bozeman native has had a strong campaign starting with her first race as a Bobcat.
Noe took first in the opening MSU Cross Country Classic on Sept. 21 and was named Big Sky Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week for her performance. She took 10th overall at Lehigh's Paul Short Run, then finished 24th at the Pre-National Invitational held at this year's NCAA course.
A big November would be in store for Noe. She opened the month by winning the Big Sky Conference individual title with her time of 17:41.3 in the 5k race in Greeley. She was the first Bobcat women's runner to win a conference championship in 27 years and earned the Big Sky Individual and Freshman of the Year awards.
Her fifth-place showing at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships qualified her for the NCAA meet. She became just the fourth Bobcat in 30 years to earn a top-10 finish at the women's regional championships.
The NCAA Championships can be streamed live with a subscription on FloTrack. Meet information like maps and live results are available on the meet central page provided by Indiana State.
