Montana State track and field took another step closer to a new campaign as program director Lyle Weese announced the Bobcats’ 2019-20 schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 22
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State track and field took another step closer to a new campaign as program director Lyle Weese announced the Bobcats' 2019-20 schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Montana State's latest slate features a variety of home meets as well as various trips outside Montana to face stiff competition.
"We are excited about our indoor and outdoor schedules," Wesse said. "We're trying to get to some different places to compete. They'll have an opportunity to compete against teams and student-athletes from all over the country."
Montana State begin its indoor schedule on Dec. 7 when its hosts the Bobcat Preview inside of Worthington Arena. The meet serves as the first of five events hosted by MSU in their home confines during the indoor season.
"Our student-athletes have really built off the early meet since we transitioned it from more of a scrimmage to a competitive meet," Weese said. "Competing against outside competition is a fun way to really finish off the fall semester and gives us a good and accurate idea of where we're at."
The Bobcats open 2020 by holding the annual MSU Multis Meet at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The men's and women's teams will make their debuts of the New Year on Jan. 17 when MSU competes in the Stacy Dragila Invitational in Pocatello, Idaho. The Bobcats host their Dual Meet Invitational on Jan. 24 and take a week off before the MSU Open in Bozeman on Feb. 7.
MSU will split its squads for the following weekend of action. The Bobcats are set to appear in the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on the campus of the University of New Mexico, as well as the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington, from Feb. 13-15.
"We travel to Idaho State early to get on their track and runways ahead of the conference championships," Weese said. "They have a plywood surface, so that will definitely be an adjustment. We'll get some people to Seattle and Albuquerque, which is the NCAA site, so we're looking forward to those as well."
Montana State holds the Big Sky Tuner in Worthington Arena before heading back to Pocatello to participate in the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships from Feb. 27-29. The NCAA Championships begin on March 13 in Albuquerque.
The Bobcats will compete in a variety of meets to prepare for the Big Sky Outdoor Championships.
After appearing in a combination of meets in California, Texas, as well as Missoula in March, Montana State opens the next month by hosting the MSU Bobcat Open at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex on April 4. The next two weekends sees the Bobcats split their squads to participate in multiple meets in California. The final three meets of MSU's regular season take place in Montana. Montana State will host meets on April 25 and May 8, while the Bobcats travel to Missoula to compete in the Cat-Griz Dual at Dornblaser Field.
"For our outdoor schedule, we'll have quite a few trips to California which is pretty easy travel for us," Weese said. "There's good competition and places to compete there. We're excited about how the entire schedule has worked out. We think we'll be at our best by the end of the year."
The Big Sky Outdoor meet is scheduled to take place in Ogden, Utah, beginning on May 13. The NCAA West Preliminary Round will be held on the University of Kansas campus from May 28-30. The track and field season comes to a close in Austin, Texas, as the University of Texas plays host to the NCAA Championships starting on June 10.
