Bobcat student-athletes and staff spent the morning of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day volunteering at several locations in Bozeman.
The third Monday of January each year is observed to commemorate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., and has been celebrated in all 50 states since 2000.
One of Dr. King's most memorable quotes includes, "Life's most persistent and urgent questions is 'what are you doing for others?'"
In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King, Jr., Federal Holiday as a national day of service. Members of Montana State Athletics spent Monday with a day on instead of a day off.

Bobcat student-athletes and staff spent the morning volunteering at several locations in Bozeman. Montana State Athletics lent its spare time to locations including the Greater Gallatin United Way, Gallatin County Rest Home, Children's Museum of Bozeman, Sack's Thrift Store (Help Center) and Montana State University Facilities.
The volunteers helped with Family Science Day which included Newspaper Engineering. They aided with PIR Day at Hyalite Elementary with the United Way, running various stations of crafts, obstacle courses and active games. The group had members sort and organize items for sale at Sack's Thrift Store and visit with residents at the Gallatin County Rest Home facility.
The group of Bobcat volunteers gathered at the end of the day and paid it forward at Fork and Spoon Homestyle Kitchen, which serves as Montana's only "Pay What You Can Café."
"Volunteering today is an opportunity for Bobcat Athletics to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello said. "We appreciate the support we receive from the MSU campus and the Bozeman community, and this is a way for our student-athletes, coaches and staff to give back."
