“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. “Doubles-wise, we’ve got to put it together, and then in singles we have a lot of maturity that has to come through. We were in a situation where we had some close matches, but were unable to close out the set. I was hoping that we would have stepped-up a bit more. "
The Montana State women's tennis team experienced the ups and downs of the early season dropping a 6-1 decision to Montana on Friday afternoon in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center. The match did not count towards the Big Sky Conference standings or the Brawl of the Wild series.
The opening doubles points was up for grabs as the Cats and Griz split at Nos. 2 and 3. Montana's top tandem of Cam Kincaid and Bianca Bostrom held off Laura Mary and Annie Walker 7-5 to give UM a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
UM got a straight set win at No. 4 singles, before freshman Annie Walker put the Bobcats on the board with a 6-3, 7-6(5) win over Nathalie Joanlanne at No. 3. Montana earned hard-fought three set victories at Nos. 1, 2 and 5 singles and completed the match with a straight set win at the No. 6 spot.

"We fought hard in four of the six matches," Reeves continued. "We have seven kids that didn't play last year. We've got a lot to do, but we'll get there."
Montana State will host Seattle U on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
