Cats Drop Five-Set Match

It was a tale of two different offensive teams as Long Beach State rallied for a 22-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-14, 15-5 win over Montana State last Saturday night in the final match of the UCI-LBS Tournament.
It was a tale of two different offensive teams as Long Beach State rallied for a 22-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-14, 15-5 win over Montana State last Saturday night in the final match of the UCI-LBS Tournament.
Montana State (4-5) owned the first two sets out-hitting the 49ers .243 to .125 heading into intermission. Long Beach State (3-10) came out locker room on fire and turned the tables on the Cats hitting at a .409 clip, while limiting MSU to just .079.
In the fifth and deciding set, Montana State jumped to an early 3-1 advantage, but LBS responded with eight consecutive points to cruise to the win.
The Bobcats were paced by senior middle blocker Kiana Black with 13 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. Sydney Mathison produced MSU's lone double-double with 38 assists and ten digs. Defensively, libero Allyssa Rizzo posted 12 digs, while true-freshman Kelsie White added a team-high five blocks.
MSU finishes its non-conference with a 4-5 overall mark, just one win shy of its 2016 total of five victories.
The Bobcats open Big Sky Conference play at Idaho on Thursday night in Moscow.
