The Montana State women’s Nordic team put three racers in the top 20, Saturday afternoon at the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational at Kincaid Park.
The Montana State women's Nordic team put three racers in the top 20, Saturday afternoon at the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational at Kincaid Park.
The Bobcats were led by All-American Anika Miller, who finished 15th overall, covering the women's classic 5-kilometer event in 16:57. 5. She was followed by Anna Fake, 16th, 17:00.2, and Kathleen O'Connell, 18th, 17:06.1.
"Conditions were cold and fair," said MSU Nordic head coach Matthew Johnson. "Our women skied really well, and with such a young team, put together results we are really happy with, including freshman Anna Fake finishing in the top 20.."
Also posting times for the MSU women were Emma Tarbath, 30th, 18:12.9, and Jordi Floyd, 33rd, 18:46.3.
The Bobcat men were paced by Noah Andersen, who covered the 10k course in 30:13.1. He was followed by Karsten Hokanson, 33rd, 30:47.2, and Martin Muan, 35th, 31:19.9.
"Our guys had a tough day," Johnson said. "Karsten is recovering from illness and had an unfortunate crash as well as a broken pole. Martin had back spasms after a strong first lap. They'll quickly put it behind them in preparation for the freestyle."
Utah sits atop of the team standings after six events with 478 points. The Utes are followed by Denver 476, Colorado 416, New Mexico 393, MSU 348, Alaska Anchorage 33, Alaska Fairbanks 135, and Colorado Mountain College 91.
"The competition is fierce," Johnson said. "And, we're learning quickly how to compete against such a strong field."
