Strong Giant Slalom Performance Propels Bobcats into Third at MSU Invite

The Bobcats, who finished fourth in the nation last season behind a dominating alpine contingent, recorded 139.5 points, and sit behind Colorado 176 and Utah 156.5, atop the team standings after one event.

The Montana State alpine squad picked up where it left off last season as three skiers from the men's team notched top 10 finishes and one from the women's side to put the Bobcats into third place after the opening day of the MSU Invitational, Sunday afternoon at Big Sky Ski Resort.

The Bobcats, who finished fourth in the nation last season behind a dominating alpine contingent, recorded 139.5 points, and sit behind Colorado 176 and Utah 156.5, atop the team standings after one event.

Sophomore Morten Bakke guided the MSU men placing fifth with a two-run total of 2:10.66. He was followed closely in MSU's top three by freshman Addison Dvoracek, sixth, 2:11.02, and Jeffrey Bell, ninth, 2:11.68.

Also adding depth for the MSU men were Garret Driller, 11^th, 2:11.94, and Patrick Carry, 20^th, 2:13.45. Three-time All-American David Neuhauser did not finish his first run.

Utah's Samuel Dupratt won the men's giant slalom title in 2:09.59.

The Montana State women were paced by senior Kari Hole, who finished fifth overall with a two-run total of 2:16.45. She was followed in scoring by Stephanie Gartner, 11^th, 2:18.26, and Mia Henry, 18^th, 2:18.94.

Also contributing for MSU were Jocelyn McCarthy, 22^nd, 2:20.77, and Elizabeth Koprucki, 29^th, 2:27.62. Two-time All-American Benedicte Lyche did not finish her first run, while Tenaya Driller did not complete her second run.

Ann-Kathrin Breunning of Westminster won the women's giant slalom crown in 2:14.92.

The MSU slalom races will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. on Tippy's Tumble.
