The Montana State alpine squad opened its 2017 schedule with an NCAA Qualifier in giant slalom.

The Montana State alpine squad opened its 2017 schedule with an NCAA Qualifier in giant slalom. The race, which helps skiers qualify for the NCAA Championships, precedes the MSU Invitational, which will be held Sunday and Monday on Tippy's Tumble at Big Sky Ski Resort.

Bobcat newcomer Addison Dvoracek posted the best performance of the qualifier finishing fifth in a two-run clocking of 2:06.03. He was followed by MSU All-Americans Garret Driller, tenth, 2:06.93; and David Neuhauser, 11^th, 2:06.94

Colorado's Ola Johansen won the giant slalom title with a time of 2:04.42.

Also posting times for the MSU men were Morten Bakke, 15^th, 2:07.37, Jeffrey Bell, 17^th, 2:07.56, and Patrick Carry, 20^th, 2:08.06.

Senior Kari Hole guided the Montana State women's team placing sixth with a two-run total of 2:05.24. She was followed in MSU's top three by Benedicte Lyche, eighth, 2:05.35, and Stephanie Gartner, 18^th, 2:07.02.

Ann-Kathrin Breuning of Westminster College won the women's giant slalom crown in 2:04.46.

Other finishers for the Bobcats included Jocelyn McCarthy, 19^th, 2:07.42, Mia Henry, 21^st, 2:07.72, Tenaya Driller, 22^nd, 2:07.78, and Elizabeth Koprucki, 38^th, 2:14.68.
