MSU Senior Christie Schiel Picks up Big Sky Weekly Honors

Christie Schiel raced atop the Big Sky performance list in the 800 and earned the conference's weekly nod
OGDEN, Utah – Montana State's Christie Schiel had a solid performance last weekend and was rewarded as Big Sky Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Monday, Jan. 23.
Schiel topped a previous lifetime best that ranks among the best in program history during the MSU dual meet in Worthington Arena on Friday.
The senior earned first place in the 800-meter run by crossing the line at 2:11.37, two seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Schiel's altitude-adjusted and track-size converted time of 2:09.15 improved her personal best that stands at fourth all time in the event in program history. The mark for Schiel placed her atop the Big Sky performance list in the event and is currently the 21st fastest in the nation.
The Cheyenne, Wyo., native put a cap on her dual meet efforts by serving as the third leg of Montana State's top 4x400 relay team that took third overall with a time of 3:54.42.
Schiel is the second Bobcat to earn Big Sky Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors during this indoor season, with men's junior Kyle Douglass receiving the weekly nod on Jan. 17.
The Bobcats continue their indoor campaign by heading to Gillette, Wyoming, to compete against the Wyoming men's and women's track and field teams in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 28.
