MSU, Mavericks meet for second straight year
A QUICK LOOK...
After playing a grinding game with a conference feel Wednesday at South Dakota, the Cats change gears completely Saturday against frenetic Omaha. MSU fell to South Dakota 74-57 in the team's worst offensive outing of the season, but on Saturday matches up with a team topped 80 four times. The 4-5 Mavericks have played a brutal schedule, facing teams from the Big 12 (twice), Big 10 and Pac 12. UNO beat Iowa last week.
MISCELLANY...
* Montana State has been out-scored in four of the six halves on the team's current three-game losing streak
* The Cats have out-rebounded three opponents by double-digits, and have been out-rebounded by 10 or more three times
* MSU's 17-point loss Wednesday was its largest of the season, the previous being the eight-point loss at Utah
* MSU's first four Division I opponents averaged 42.3 free throws a game, but the last four have shot just 25.8
ON THE OFFENSE...
* MSU was held to its lowest scoring total and worst shooting night at USD Wednesday
* Montana State's 10.5 three-pointers per game is 12th in the nation (after hitting 9.6 a game last year, 19th nationally), and Tyler Hall's 3.8 treys per game is 7th
* Freshman Harald Frey has led the Cats in assists in eight of the team's 10 games, with only Tyler Hall joining the party
* Four of Zach Green's top six career scoring games have come in the last month
* Freshman point guard Harald Frey has assisted on 18% (46) of MSU's 265 baskets this season
* After scoring 24% of his team's points a year ago, Tyler Hall has accounted for 27% (235 of 805) in the early going of 2016-17
* Tyler Hall shot 2.9 free throws a game last year, a figure he's raised to 5.1 in 2016-17
ON THE DEFENSE...
* UWM shot better from three-point (60%) range than any other foe has from the floor, and is the only Bobcat foe to top 50% shooting this year
