Montana State defense hopes to slow down Eagles
106.
As in 106 points by the Eagles in their last two matchups with Montana State. Eastern drilled the Bobcats 54-29 in 2013, MSU's last visit to the red turf of Roos Field, and won a 52-51 thriller in Bozeman last year. In spite of the daunting task before his unit, MSU's co-defensive coordinator Kane Ioane is unbowed.
"I look forward to the challenge," he said with a smile.
Saturday's game marks the 16th for Ioane against the Eagles – he arrived at MSU in the fall of 2000 and almost immediately entered the starting lineup. He has seen his share of great Eastern Washington offenses. "From guys like Erik Meyer and Bo Levi Mitchell, right through Vernon Adams and Jordan West, they've always had great quarterbacks. But they also have great weapons around the quarterbacks."

The Bobcats will line up a little different in the secondary to start the game. Khari Garcia makes his season debut in at free safety, starting for DeMonte King, while Bryce Alley starts for Trace Timmer at right corner. Both Timmer and King are expected to play.

The story is different on the other sideline. Eastern is without three projected starters on defense – DE Jonah Jordan, SLB Jake Gall, and Rover Todd Raynes – and also misses RT Cassidy Curtis and WR Shaq Hill, along with a spate of backups, on offense.

The Bobcats debut their all-white uniforms on Saturday – white helmets, white jerseys and white pants. Eastern counters with white pants and red-on-red up top.
Football in many ways is a game of numbers, and there's an easy one to spot in the lead-up to today's Montana State-Eastern Washington game.
