Jeff Newton was a tremendous nose tackle for the Cats in the early '90s
For every day of the summer we will look at players who donned the jersey number corresponding to the number of days until the Bobcats open the 2015 season on September 3 against Fort Lewis College. The list of MSU football players by the jersey number is based on preseason rosters. The set of available rosters is complete from 1946-81 and '83-present. Only the 1926-27, 1934, 1937 and 1941 rosters are available in the pre-WWII years. Corrections, additions, or rosters that fill out the set will be welcomed enthusiastically via e-mail at: blamberty@msubobcats.com. Complaints about featured players also welcome, but possibly with less enthusiasm.

B.J. Ojo, LB.: B.J. Ojo may not be the most highly-acclaimed member of Montana State's 2015 recruiting class, but ask members of the Bobcat defensive staff privately if any high school products have a chance to help the cause right away and it doesn't take long to get to Ojo. A rangy, athletic linebacker who earned first-team all-district honors as a junior and senior at Manvel (Tex.) High School, he is viewed as one of the bright prospects among the program's incoming freshmen.
Spotlight Player: Much may have gone wrong for Montana State football in 1991, when the Cats finished 2-9, but one of the things that went right was the emergence of nose tackle Jeff Newton. The Bigfork product earned Second Team All-Big Sky and Honorable Mention All-America honors after ringing up 75 tackles, eight for a loss, in the interior of the Bobcats' defensive line. The next season he was even better, leading the team with 97 tackles, seven for a loss, with a fumble forced and one recovered. He earned First Team All-Big Sky honors as a senior.
Through the Years: Joe Dobeus (1926), Everett Best (1927), Bud Gill (1937), Willie Baugh (1953), Hal Walker (1954-55), Darrell Hueth (1956), Phil Whitner (1957), Dan Costello (1958), Bob Cegelski (1959-62), Terry Albrecht (1963-65), Ray Biggs (1966-67), Gene Wasia (1968-69), Rick Urdahl (1970-71), Brooks Lanning (1973), Lee Washburn (1974), Jon Kienberger (1975-76), Jack Muhlbeier (1977-80), Tom Martin (1982), Jon Wanago (1984-88), Jeff Newton (1990-92), Mike Knoyle (1993), Jim Sykes (1996-97), Damien Stephens (1999), Blake Wolf (2000-01), Mike Weiss (2002-03), JD Sullivan (2004), Kyle Burch (2005), Pat Keefe (2006), Josiah Lusby (2007-2009), Michael Foster (2010-14), BJ Ojo (2015-)
