McCutchen, Muri Qualify for Conference Championships

Montana State's heptathletes kicked off the weekend for the Bobcats, with two-of-three automatically qualifying for the conference championships. Carley McCutchen picked up right where she left off after the indoor season, scoring a total of 5,321, just 70 points shy of her personal best. The senior is currently number two in MSU history, just 43 points behind Erin Jones Graff.
McCutchen started off the competition yesterday afternoon, running a 13.98 100m hurdle race, moving her up to number five on MSU's all-time top ten list. Danielle Muri followed McCutchen with a time of 15.32. Jessica Chrisp finished in 16.70.
With a high jump of 5-05.75, McCutchen earned 818 points towards her total. Chrisp cleared a height of 5-03.25 and Muri 4-11.75.
Muri led all three 'Cats in the shot put, throwing a distance of 40-05 feet. McCutchen marked a throw of 34-11.75 and Chrisp a distance of 30-11.
The 200 was a close race, with McCutchen leading the way, finishing in 25.12. Chrisp finished second with a time of 25.79, followed by Muri's 26.11 second race.
McCutchen swept the final three events to bring her total to 5,321. The Buckley, Wash. native recorded a 17-11.75 long jump and a distance of 121-06 in the javelin. McCutchen finished off the day, running a 2:24.17 800m run.
Muri finished with a total of 4,793 points, after marking a 17-07.50 long jump distance. The junior recorded a 112-04 javelin distance and a 2:32.71 800m time. Muri's total was enough to automatically qualify for the championships. Chrisp did not record a long jump mark, but placed second in the 800 with a time of 2:32.66. Chrisp's total came to 3,653.
The remainder of the meet with begin tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.
