New Faces Lead Bobcats in Louisville

Diego Leon placed in the top 50 at the Pre-Nationals Invitational in Louisville, KY today, leading the Bobcats to a 20th place finish. Leon crossed the finish line in 24:59.3, the junior-transfers best finish as a Bobcat.
Montana State's men competed in the 8K, unseeded race at Tom Sawyer State Park, the location of the NCAA National meet that will take place in November. The women place 42nd in the seeded 5K race at the same venue.
Sophomore Matthew Gotta finished shortly after Leon, marking a time of 25:09.2, placing 70th. Justice Lamer, a freshman from Corvallis, OR, continues to run at the front of the pack for the 'Cats, running a time of 25:17.5 and placing 87th. Ethan Wilhelm and Brock Sandry placed 122 and 124, with times of 25:40.9 and 25:41.9. Ty Mogan cruised to the finish line in 127th, tallying a time of 25:42.6. In his first meet back after suffering an injury in September, Jake Turner finished the course in 29:14.7.
The women were again led by freshman Alyssa Snyder who placed 73rd with a time of 20:58.8 on the 5,000-meter course. Louisa Serpe placed 223 (21:53.6), while Chiara Warner finished just behind her in 21:54.0. Jenette Northey completed the course in 22:07.8 (255th) and Kaylee Schmitz finished in 22:12.3 to place 265th. A pair of seniors rounded out the 'Cats 42nd place finish, with Rachel Atwood placing 268th (22:17.9) and Rachel Sullivan in 273rd (22:20.1).
Erin Clark of Colorado was the individual champion on the women's side and Robert Allen of UMass Lowell won the men's race (23:59.9). Liberty went on to win the men's competition with 159 points and Michigan won the women's title with 131 points.
Montana State returns to competition on October 31 for the Big Sky Conference Championships in Cedar City, Utah.
