Bobcats host first of two home meets this spring
Meet Schedule
Bobcat Track and Field is set to host the first of two home meets beginning Thursday, April 3, at the Montana State Open. The first two days will be devoted to the decathlon and heptathlon, followed by the full slate of events on Saturday, April 5. Field events are set for 10:30 a.m., followed by running events at 11:30.
The meet marks MSU's second outdoor meet of 2014 after a hearty opening weekend at the Al Manuel Invitational on March 29. In that first outing, the Bobcats picked up 17 Big Sky Conference Automatic Qualifiers and have 50 ranked among the top-20 in each event as this early point of the season.
The track and field coaching staff has high expectations of what could take place in just this second week and the Bobcats have a great opportunity before them. The multis allow a talented group of student-athletes to make their outdoor debut, including Jeff Mohl, Powhattan Williamson and Carley McCutchen, all who redshirted the indoor portion of the year.
"It is always great to compete at home," said head coach Dale Kennedy. "The excitement of the team this spring is contagious and they're thrilled to just get out there, compete and improve. It will be great to get the multis going, as they really set the tone for the meet."
Joining Montana State at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex will be Big Sky Conference members Eastern Washington and Montana, along with Carroll and MSU-Billings.
As a special feature to the home opener, Montana State will also celebrate National Student-Athlete Day by recognizing over 100 Bobcats who earned over a 3.0 grade point average. The brief ceremony will take place prior to the start of the 4x100 relay.
