Elite weekend will provide good gauge for Bobcats
Montana State Track and Field is slated to compete and three track meets beginning Wednesday and will make appearances at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa and the Beach Invitational in Norwalk over the course of April 16-19. The prior weekend brought huge success for the program at two meets in Utah. The Bobcats are ready for another week of top performances as they continue their quest to prepare for the Big Sky Championships in May.
A select group of multis athletes will kick the weekend off on Wednesday, April 16 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Carley McCutchen and Danielle Muri will compete in the impressive field and look to improve upon their latest heptathlon scores. Jeff Mohl and Powhattan Williamson will also make appearances in the men's decathlon. Mohl won the Big Sky decathlon back in 2012 and following his redshirt in 2013, he'll look to make national waves in the grueling event.
At Mt. SAC, the Bobcats rostered all their big players in hopes of getting into the national picture and staying at the top of the Big Sky ranks. The remaining student-athletes will try their hand at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Both groups will come together on Saturday at the Beach Invite, hosted by Long Beach State and look to cap off a big weekend and set the tone for the Cat-Griz Dual on April 26 in Bozeman.
Prior to the start of the the California weekend, MSU has 41 qualifiers for the Big Sky Championships, being held May 14-17, in Flagstaff, Ariz., but there's still plenty of room for more.
"This is one of the craziest weekends of the season," said head coach Dale Kennedy. "We're doing so well right now and we just want to keep improving, making sure we peak at the right time. These meets give us a chance to compete against teams we don't see all the time and see where we sit in the west region. Most importantly, it's one more chance for us to get qualifiers and perform better than the week before."
The Mt. SAC multis take place Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 17. Results and Information can be found here.
