Track and Field Hosts Final Indoor Meet

Bobcat Open marks final chance for conference championship qualifiers
Some say opportunity only knocks once but Montana State Track and Field is down to their sixth and final chance this indoor season. The Bobcat Open marks the "last chance" meet before the Big Sky Championships and if they haven't already, MSU will surely put it all out there.
The meet also marks MSU's final home indoor meet and their last home track meet until Saturday, Apr. 5, when they head outdoors for the Montana State Open at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex.
Headed into Friday's meet, Montana State has 25 student-athletes with their tickets officially punched for the meet, which begins Feb. 27, in Pocatello, hosted by Idaho State. The 12 MSU women boast 18 performances with six of them qualified in two events. On the men's side, 13 are slated for conference appearances. Distance runners Jacob Kirk and Trevor Polson lead the way with qualifications in three events (Mile, 3000, 5000).
Those with the most on the line for the Bobcat Open are those just on the cusp of the right time, height or distance. There are 20 performances within the top-16 of their event, all could still earn a bid to the Championships but are seeking the official mark to the meet.
"We all know how important this meet is," said head coach Dale Kennedy. "Things have been coming together for a lot of our kids and we'll need to make that push to really get where we all need to be at this point of the indoor season."
Also participating in the Bobcat Open are Carroll, Dickinson State, Great Falls, Montana and Rocky Mountain.
The meet will kick off at 1:30 p.m. providing one final chance for high scores in the women's pentathlon. Field events will commence at 3:30 p.m. with the men's weight throw and the running events at 4:30 p.m.
