
Junior Jake Turner placed 15th to earn All-Mountain Region accolades, while also qualifying for the NCAA Championships, Friday afternoon.
Turner Leads Bobcat Harriers at Region Meet, Qualifies for NCAA Championships

“Jake was the highlight of the race,” MSU Distance Coach Lyle Weese said. “He ran with the lead pack and battled it out the whole race. Jake had a great race and secured himself a spot in the NCAA meet.”
All fall junior Jake Turner had his eyes set on qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships. And, on Friday afternoon the graduate of Missoula Sentinel, reached his goal.
Turner placed 15th overall, earning All-NCAA Mountain Region honors after covering the 10-kilometer race in 30:09. He garnered one of the four individual at-large bids for the NCAA championships.

Following Turner in MSU's top five were Mike Asay, 42nd, 31:12, Matt Gotta, 74th, 32:16, Ethan Wilhelm, 77th, 32:24, and Zach Kughn, 100th, 34:03.
"On the men's side I thought freshman Matt Gotta had a great race," Weese said. "He is going to be a bright spot for us going forward."
Overall, the Bobcat men finished 12th in the team standings. Colorado won the team title with 45 points, followed by Northern Arizona 68, BYU 121, Southern Utah 128, Colorado State 140, UTEP 156, New Mexico 158, Weber State 191, Air Force 202, Wyoming 243, Utah State 288, MSU 308, Utah Valley 324, Texas Tech 396, New Mexico State 396, Montana 460 and Idaho State 471.
The MSU women's team placed tenth overall, despite running without one of its leading runners this fall. Freshman Caroline Hardin was sidelined with an illness.
Rachel Sullivan continued to be hot for the Bobcats finishing 29th overall, covering the 6K race in 22:06. Sullivan also paced MSU at the Big Sky Conference championship two weeks ago.
"Rachel just missed all-region honors by four spots," Weese said. "She has put two outstanding races back-to-back. And, Keely (West) for battling injuries her whole career really went out on a high note."
Rounding out MSU's top five were Jenette Northey, 54th, 22:30, West 55th, 22:33, Michelle Cline, 58th, 22:35, and Rachel Atwood, 63rd, 22:43.
Colorado won the women's team title with 43 points, followed by New Mexico 56, BYU 112, Northern Arizona 149, Wyoming 157, Colorado State 160, Utah 246, Idaho State 246, Weber State 253, MSU 259, Nevada 270, Texas Tech 371, Utah Valley 374, Northern Colorado 379, Air Force 385, Utah State 407, Southern Utah 423, New Mexico State 472, Montana 485 and UTEP 488.
"We finished just 13 points back of seventh place, so I'm happy with our performance," Weese said. "We did a nice job regrouping without Caroline in the line-up and had a solid day."
Tuner will compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
