Neutral site dual meet with Wyoming marks first away meet of the season
Montana State Track and Field travels to Gillette, Wyo. for their second week of dual meets when they compete against Wyoming in the Powder River Dual on Friday, Jan. 31. The scored meet will take place at the Campbell County Recreation Center, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The Bobcats enter the meet riding the momentum of a great second week of competition. Montana State went 3-1 at the MSU Double Dual, where the men beat both Montana and Idaho State and the women split, getting the win over ISU and falling to UM.
Montana State will bring the full squad to Wyoming and look to capitalize on a week that has brought attention to the team at both the conference and national level. Jacob Kirk was named the Big Sky Conference Track Athlete of the Week after winning the mile in a personal best time of 4:02.13, which leads the Big Sky and ranks his 10th in the nation.
At the regional level, MSU had made their way into the USTFCCCA Regional Index. In the national organization's first poll of the year, the men are ranked 12th, only three places behind Wyoming in 9th, setting up for a great match up in Gillette. The women enter Friday's meet with an impressive eighth place poll position, while the Cowgirls are in 12th.
"Friday was a great event, really competitive," said head coach Dale Kennedy. "It's exciting to know that we'll have a similar format this week and it really brings out the team aspect of track and field. To go to a new venue, against a new competitor will be a great way for us to keep tabs on our progress this indoor season."
The meet will being with the women's weight throw at 11:30 a.m. while the running events will start at 12:40 p.m. with the women's 800 meter run.
