MSU loses another defensive starter
Forgive Rob Ash for cringing when he sees a member of the MSU sports medicine staff. Lately, the news has been mostly bad. That trend continued Thursday, when starting safety Eryon Barnett was ruled out for today's game with a shoulder injury.
Junior Rob Marshall steps into Barnett's strong safety spot. Marshall played well at SMU last week, recovering two fumbles, forcing one, and logging three tackles.
While Ash has confidence in those stepping into new roles in recent weeks, his concern lies in the math of the situation. "I know all of our guys will step in and play well," he said. "My concern is the depth. We are just razor thin right now."

Most of the attention this week centered on Jake Bleskin's debut as MSU's starting quarterback. Ash is pleased with what he saw. "I have a very high level of confidence in Jake," Ash said. "He had a good week of practice. He throws the ball beautifully, he knows the offense, he knows his checks. What we don't know is how he'll do when the rush is live and he has players in his face, and how he'll react after a bad play. DeNarius (McGhee) has been so brilliant at forgetting plays as soon as they're over, and today we'll find out if Jake has that ability."

Jake Bleskin is the first Bobcat to start at quarterback other than DeNarius McGhee since November of 2009, a string of 40 games.

The best passing day of a Bobcat quarterback in his starting debut? Joe Volek, 358 yards vs. NAU in 1990.
