Annual Cat-Griz Dual marks last road trip before Big Sky meet
There's Yankees-Red Sox and Ohio State-Michigan, but both pale in comparison to Montana State-Montana, or Cat-Griz as it is known around these parts. Almost every Montana State sports team has the privilege to compete in this heated rivalry and track and field gets there moment to shine on Saturday, April 27 at Dornblaser Field in Missoula.
Bobcat Track and Field will look for another sweep at the Cat-Griz Dual Meet and continue to ride the consistent momentum of this year's outdoor season. Last year in Bozeman, the MSU men defeated the Griz, 107-76, with six first-place finishes, while the women won, 98-79, earning four golds.
In the series, the Bobcat men have won three of the last four meetings but the Griz hold the lead in the series, 54-24. MSU's longet win streak ran from 1987 until 1998. The women will look to extend their win streak after their victory in 2012. In the series, which began in 1983, the Griz leads 15-14. (Dual Meet Records)
In addition to bragging rights, Montana State is still working towards filling out their rosters for the Big Sky Championships, taking place in Forest Grove, Ore., May 8-11. Prior to the Cat-Griz fual, the Bobcats have 16 women slated to compete at the conference meet, while the men have 20 ready to go.
“As a proponent of scored meets, this is one of our favorites, naturally,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “But there's a lot of added pressure with the scoring and the continued pressure and motivation to progress as the season escalates into the conference meet.
