Jasmine Hommes notched a team-best 16 points, while Ashley Brumwell chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome a second-half swoon as Seattle University posted a 74-63 win over Montana State, Saturday afternoon in the Connolly Center.
In a game that featured twelve lead changes and six ties, Montana State (4-3) found itself down by seven early in the opening stanza. Following a 12-day hiatus for finals, the Bobcats shook off the dust with a 13-4 run to take its first lead at 20-18 at the nine-minute, 41-second mark on an Emily Allen jumper.
The two teams traded leads, before Seattle U (4-6) entered intermission with a 35-33 advantage.
Leading by two points with less than nine minutes left in the game, the Redhawks pushed the margin to eight points. MSU responded with five unanswered points, including a triple by Brumwell to pull to within 60-57 with 6:52 remaining.
However, Seattle quickly rattled off an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach.
"We struggled with our offensive consistency," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. "We were out of rhythm and never got into a good flow on offense. Down the stretch, we did some things that were uncharacteristic of our team. We played tired and our turnovers were costly."
Montana State forced 25 Seattle turnovers, but committed 17 miscues, which led to 24 Redhawks points.
For the game, MSU shot 36 percent from the field, but hit just 29 percent of its attempts in the second half. The Bobcats also shot a season-low 61 percent from the free throw line.
Seattle finished shooting 49 percent from the field, while holding a 42-35 rebounding advantage. The Redhawks were paced by Kacie Sowell with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Montana State will play at Washington on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. (MST).
