Montana State visits Northern Colorado on Saturday
Ask Montana State football coach Rob Ash about the strength of today's opponent, Northern Colorado, and he doesn't hesitate.
"Strength," he says simply. "Northern Colorado has always been a strong, physical team since I've been here. I think this is the best we've matched up with them physically in my time. (Former head coach) Scott Downing implemented a very good strength program and they have continued to do a great job in that area."
This year's Northern Colorado squad is pass-heavy on offense, but uses a stout linebacker group to control the box area on defense.
"This will be a great challenge for us," Ash says.

For the first time all season, Montana State enters a game with the same starting lineup projected at the beginning of fall camp.
Preston Gale will start at defensive end, Sean Gords will start at cornerback, Eryon Barnett is available at safety but Rob Marshall will start, and Tanner Roderick is a full go at receiver.
"We've fought through some things," said MSU coach Rob Ash, "but we feel pretty good where we are right now."

With the Bobcats facing a 1-7 team today, there was considerable talk this week about MSU looking beyond the matchup with Northern Colorado. Rob Ash said Saturday morning he has sensed none of that this week. "Our senior leaders, Cody (Kirk) and DeNarius (McGhee) and Tanner (Bleskin) and Brad (Daly) are very focused guys," he said. "They are very, very motivated to stay on this string of success we've been on, and they know the way to do that is to work hard every single day. Today's practice is the most important practice of the year, the next game is the most important game of the year, and that mentality has led to some success in our program."
