PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
Offense – RB Cody Kirk (5-10, 213, Sr, Frenchtown, MT)
Montana State senior running back Cody Kirk rushed for 119 yards on 20 carries Saturday, scoring two touchdowns and becoming the second Bobcat in history to pass the 3,000-yard rushing milestone. Kirk's touchdowns helped him retain the Big Sky lead in rushing touchdowns, while remaining in the top five in the FCS. Kirk's first score of the day came with 42 seconds remaining in the first half, capping a quick 70-yard drive that took just 1:15 and saw Kirk account for 25 of those yards on three carries and a catch. In the third quarter, when the Bobcats were able to effectively seal the win by running 18 plays and allowing UC Davis just two full possessions, Kirk rushed for 56 yards. He also carried five times for 22 yards in the fourth quarter. Kirk passed MSU legends Steve Kracher and Iron Tumbleweed Don Hass, each native Montanans like Kirk, into second place on MSU's career rushing list Saturday. In addition to his 14th career 100-yard rushing game, Kirk also caught three passes for 30 yards. Kirk also keyed a Bobcat offense that rolled up its eighth straight 20-first down game of 2013.
Defense – FS Rob Marshall (6-0, 200, Jr, Carrollton, TX)
Junior safety Rob Marshall registered eight tackles on Sunday, helping lead a Bobcat defense that limited UC Davis to 329 total yards and 16 first downs. The Aggies threw for just 159 yards Saturday.
Special Teams – none
BOBCAT NOTES
• Cody Kirk's two touchdown run against UC Davis gives him 14 this season, tied for the second-most in a season in school history, and 43 for his career, an MSU record he extends with each TD.
• Kirk became the second Bobcat in history to surpass 3,000 rushing yards on Saturday, and currently stands on 3,048 for his career. He is second in school history in career rushing yards, and is chasing current MSU professor and local physical therapist Ryan Johnson's 3,646 career yards. On Saturday, the Frenchtown Freight Train passed two fellow Montanans, Columbia Falls' Steve Kracher and Glendive's famed Iron Tumbleweed, Don Hass.
• After catching five passes in MSU's first six games, junior tight end Tiai Salanoa has six catches in the last two.
• Saturday's contest will be Montana State's first this season on natural grass.
• MSU's four non-conference opponents own a cumulative record of 16-16 on the season.
• Montana State's opponent has blocked an extra point in two straight games.
• Northern Colorado is the second Bobcat opponent of the season, joining North Dakota, playing Montana State coming off its bye week.
• Daly's two sacks Saturday give him 32 in his career, fourth in MSU history in that caterogy, and his 2.5 tackles-for-loss (after film review Sunday Alex Singleton was also credited with a half-TFL on the last play of the second quarter) raises his career total to 42, one from joining the MSU career top 10.
• Daly now has 17.5 tackles-for-loss this season, tied with Dane Fletcher for eighth in school history, and 12 sacks, already seventh-most in a season by a Bobcat.
• Daly now leads the FCS in sacks per game and tackles-for-loss per game.
• Saturday's win for the Bobcats was their third straight over a league rival whose head coach graduated from a Pac 12 school (Jerome Souers and Ron Gould attended Oregon, while Jody Sears is a Washington State graduate).
• Montana State is 37-2 under Rob Ash when scoring 30 points or more, 30-1 when holding the opponent to under 20 points, both of which happened in Saturday's win against UC Davis.
• The Bobcats have compiled at least 20 first downs in every game this season while holding six of their eight opponents below that mark.
• This week's trip to Northern Colorado begins MSU's second set of back-to-back road games of the season, and also marks the Bobcats' second straight game against an opponent wearing blue and gold.
