MSU faces familiar face across the field
MSU Flip Card vs. UC Davis
Montana State linebackers coach Kane Ioane will see a familiar face on the opposite sideline today. Former Bobcat Will Kofe, a teammate of Ioane's when both played at MSU as true freshmen in 2000, is in his second season as an assistant coach at UC Davis.
Kofe registered 22 tackles, three for a loss with 0.5 sacks, in 2000. He coaches Aggie defensive linemen.

Much of the talk around the Bobcat defense in 2013 has centered on turnovers. Montana State is +10 in turnover margin this season, with the defense's nine interceptions a big part of the reason.
But Ash said the path to the impressive turnover performance has been unusual. "A big part of it is the linebackers," he said. "They have really been ball hawks."
Alex Singleton has three interceptions and Cole Moore two from the linebacker corps which had to replace all three starters from last season. In addition, Michael Foster has recovered three fumbles.

James Nelson is tabbed to start at corner for the Bobcats today. Sean Gords, who started the first three games, suffered a hand injury at Weber State last week and wasn't cleared to play on game day. It is Nelson's first start as a Bobcat.

Ash, a coaching veteran of nearly four decades, praised UC Davis first-year coach Ron Gould this week for handling the transition from UC Davis' long-time and legendary coach Bob Briggs. "Ron did something that was very smart," Ash said, "by keeping the best things from 20 years of continuity UC Davis had under Coach Briggs. I think Coach Gould has done an excellent job in this transition, which isn't easy."
