Jeff Mohl earned 27.75 points at the Big Sky Championships before being named the Mountain Region Field Athlete of the Year

Mohl Named Mountain Region Field Athlete of the Year

Another impressive accolade added to the decathlete's 2012 portfolio
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2012 Region Athletes and Coaches of the Year on Monday and one of Montana State's own earned the highly-touted regional distinction as Jeff Mohl was named the Mountain Region Field Athlete of the Year.
Mohl, a junior from Red Lodge, Mont., was the Big Sky Champion in the decathlon with a meet-record and season-best score of 7,630. He scored 27¾ points at the conference championships, helping the squad to a second-place team finish, as he went on to take second in the long jump, fourth in the pole vault, and ran legs on the team's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. He was named the Outstanding Male Athlete for his efforts at the meet.
“This is certainly a result of Jeff's commitment as well as (assistant coach) Tom Eitel's work to get Jeff to the level he is at today,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “This is a great honor for Jeff, our program and the University as a whole.”
The USTFCCA Region Athlete selection is based on votes by the nation's coaches, many of these athletes and coaches will participate in this upcoming weekend's final site of the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9. NCAA.com and ESPN3.com will carry live coverage starting Wednesday. ESPNU will air live coverage on Saturday, June 9, starting at Noon, eastern. Mohl is slated to compete in the decathlon at the NCAA meet.
