Five Bobcats compete at opening day of NCAA Regionals
It may not have been pretty but she's going back to the dance. Emily Tyrrell was the lone Bobcat on Friday to extend the season by another two weeks and placed among the top-12 to advance to the NCAA Championships in the javelin.
The senior thrower, who competed at nationals back in 2010 and placed 10th, came in 11th overall in the West Preliminary with a hurl of 48.60m (159-05.00). While not a season or lifetime best, it was still enough to advance on.
Tyrrell was one of five Bobcats who competed on Thursday. Also in the field events, Trevor Gilreath came in 42nd with a distance of 15.56m (51-00.75) in the shot put.
Three of some of Montana State's finest took to the track in their first appearance at the West Regional. Maddie Fuchs, who placed second in the 400 hurdles at the Big Sky Championships, came in 39th overall on Thursday, crossing the finish line in 1:01.65.
Chris Wilson, Big Sky Champion in the 100, placed 42nd overall with a time of 10.62.
Rounding the Montana State contenders was Grant Grosvenor in the 800. After winning his second Big Sky title in the 800, he crossed the finish line in 43rd with a time of 1:52.91.
Friday's schedule has three Bobcats slated to perform. Wilson will look to advance in the 200 preliminary. Heather Haug will compete in the 3,000 steeplechase and David Phillips in the hammer throw.
