Bobcats Land Three Big Sky Athletes of the Week

Big weekend in Utah pays off for Track and Field
The Big Sky Conference announced the Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of April17 on Tuesday and Montana State nearly swept the awards. The Bobcats took three of the four weekly awards, capping off a big week at the Utah Spring Classic (Apr. 13) and the Wildcat Outdoor Open (Apr. 14). (Complete Big Sky Release)
Emily Tyrrell was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week after posting a season best distance of 49.91m (163-09.00) in the javelin at the Wildcat Outdoor Open. The senior has not placed lower than first in each of her three outings in 2012 and is ranked 17th in NCAA Division I. This is the second time this season that Tyrrell picked up the honors. Montana State has also had the Field Athlete of the Week in three of the four weeks of outdoor competition.
Chris Wilson was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, following some serious sprint work at the Utah Spring Classic. The Great Falls, Mont. native set a new program record in the 100 with a time of 10.39, besting the previous record of 10.62, set back in 2006. Wilson anchored the record-setting 4x100 relay that crossed the finish line in 41.00.
David Phillips took the Men's Field Athlete Award, following a three-medal finish in Utah. He won the hammer throw at the Utah Spring Classic with a throw of 62.42m (205-01.50), followed by a second place finish in the shot put with 16.56m (54-04.00). Both were season bests for the senior thrower.
Next up, Montana State will travel to California to compete at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, April 20, as well as sending a split squad to the Bryan Clay Invitational. The full team will compete at the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif. on Saturday, April 21.
