Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Rankings Released

Men earn second place preseason ranking for outdoor season, women tabbed fifth
The Big Sky Conference announced the 2012 Outdoor Track and Field preseason rankings on Wednesday, March 14 and the Bobcats have much to be excited about. The Bobcat Men are tabbed second, while the women were picked to finish in fifth place.
In the men's race, Northern Arizona was picked first, with six first-place votes, while Montana State came in second with two first-place votes, followed by Sacramento State with one vote. Most recently, NAU won the Big Sky Indoor Championships in February, while MSU was the runner-up. The Bobcats head outside with 11 All-Conference selections, including three conference champions.
For the women, Montana State was picked fifth of nine programs. Sacramento State, who was the indoor runner-up was picked first with five first-place votes, followed by 2012 Indoor Champion Weber State with four first-place tallies. Northern Arizona and Portland State were picked third and fourth, respectively.
"I'm not surprised at the predictions," said head coach Dale Kennedy. "The rankings came out about where I thought they would, with one of the highest men's ranking we've had in three years. The women surprised me a bit after the indoor season but with some roster changes, we should see some great success this spring."
In 2011, the Bobcat men came in third, while the women finished fourth overall.
Montana State will open the 2012 outdoor slate on March 30 at the Al Manuel Invitation in Missoula, Mont.
