MSU, Grizzlies get together in Dahlberg Arena Saturday
With plenty on the line for both teams, Montana State hits the hardwood of Dahlberg Arena Saturday against Big Sky loss column co-leader Montana. Tipoff is 7:05 pm, and the game is scheduled to be televised throughout the state on CW stations.
MSU Game Notes vs. Montana
While the Grizzlies own a 10-game winning streak after routing Northern Arizona Thursday, the Bobcats have lost seven straight. While Saturday marks Montana's Senior Night and could give the Grizzlies a 14-win season, the real prize for Montana is at stake in Tuesday's winner-take-all game against Weber State. The victor of that contest enters the Big Sky Tournament, which it hosts, as the top seed. The loser earns a first round bye as the second seed.
MSU remains on the cusp of qualifying for the Big Sky Conference Tournament, battling Northern Colorado for entry into and seeding in the event. MSU stands 6-8 in Big Sky play, while the 5-10 Bears close their regular season at Portland State on Tuesday. Two Bobcat wins would boost the team into the Big Sky Tournament, while a single win combined with a Northern Colorado loss would do the same. If MSU and UNC each finish 6-10, a tiebreaker using the final Big Sky standings would determine which team advances.
In addition to UNC's Tuesday night tilt at Portland State, the Vikings (8-6) host Eastern Washington (7-7) on Saturday. Eastern hosts Idaho State on Tuesday, after the Bengals (7-7) host Sacramento State on Saturday.
Leading scorer Xavier Blount remains sidelined for MSU, but sophomore Shawn Reid has stepped up to help carry the offensive load. The Post Falls, Idaho, product has scored 85 points in MSU's last four games.
