MSU linebacker honored for the first time
Montana State linebacker Jody Owens earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors Monday, his first weekly award from the Big Sky.
A senior team captain from Mesquite, Tex., Owens registered 13 tackles Saturday, including two for a loss and one sack, in MSU's 24-17 win over Southern Utah. Owens and the Bobcat defense held Southern Utah to just 69 yards rushing and 15 points below the team's season scoring average.
A Preseason All-America and the Big Sky Conference's Preseason Defensive MVP, Owens earned unanimous all-league honors as a junior last season. He joins league offensive honoree Vernon Adams of Eastern Washington and Sacramento State kicker Edgar Castaneda in earning weekly league kudos.
