Senior thrower named Big Sky Athlete of the Week
For the second week in a row, a Bobcat Track and Field Athlete has earned recognition from the Big Sky Conference. Amanda Murphy, a senior thrower, was named the BSC Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 23, 2012.
Murphy earned two first place finishes at the MSU Dual Meet Invitational on Jan. 20, to open her final indoor season. She won the shot put with a distance of 14.02m (46-00.00) and the weight throw with 18.55m (60-10.50). Her weight throw performances ranks her 30th in NCAA Division I. Both marks earn her a spot at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships, Feb. 24-25 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Last week, Jeff Mohl was named the Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts in the heptathlon.
Murphy will compete again on Friday, Jan. 27, when MSU hosts the Montana State Open, which is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
Also nominated: Lindsey Hall, Montana, and Ify Agwuenu, Sacramento State.
