Montana State Skiers Ready for 2011 NCAA Skiing Championships

Nine members of the Montana State skiing team will participate in the 2011 NCAA Championships, March 9-12 in Stowe, Vermont.

The University of Vermont will host the four-day event with the alpine races slated for the Stowe Mountain Resort, while the Nordic venue will take place at the Trapp Family Resort.
The Nordic freestyle event will begin the championships on Wednesday at 8 a.m. (MST) with the men's 10-kilometer race, followed by the women's 5-kilometer at 10 a.m. The Nordic classic races will be held on Friday.
The alpine portion of the national meet begins on Thursday with the giant slalom and will conclude on the final day with slalom.
Four skiers will be making a return appearance to the NCAAs, including three-time participants Bernhard Roenning and Ryan Scott. The duo, along with Tyler Reinking, earned All America status at last year's national meet hosted by the University of Colorado.
Casey Kutz returns to the national stage in the women's Nordic events, while Chris Barber, who has been MSU's top alpine racer this season, also makes his second NCAA appearance.
Making first appearances at the championship for the Bobcats will be Geoff Irwin, men's alpine, Marissa Riopelle and Karen Bell, women's alpine, and Ase Carlson, women's Nordic.
Last season, Montana State finished eighth overall. MSU's best finish at a national meet came in 1969, when the Bobcats placed fourth.
Montana State will host the 2012 NCAA Skiing Championships at Bridger Bowl and Bohart Ranch.
