Montana State Athletics is excited to host its new partner in business networking, Career Athletes, March 21 for a campus visit. Career Athletes, the top career resource center for student-athletes, will deliver its on-campus career seminar that has been delivered over nine-hundred times, educating more than 260,000 student-athletes.
Founded in 1998, CareerAthletes.com is the premium destination for current/alumni student-athletes, athletic departments and business organizations seeking to create professional connections. Over 140,000 internships and jobs were posted on the network last year, and with the continued addition of colleges throughout the nation even more opportunities for student-athletes are expected this year.
Student-athletes register and fill out a personal profile on the network, which automatically connects them to over 500 employers, 80,000 athletes, and links to potential jobs.
Career Athletes is based on the philosophy of employers looking for the specific qualities that student-athletes possess. Competitive, hard working, dedicated individuals who specialize in time-management are traits that are noteworthy to recruiters.
“Our mission is to provide our members with an educational, opportunistic, and interactive community ensuring these connections can be made quickly and effectively,” said Chris Smith, co-founder and CEO of Career Athletes.
Currently involved with over 150 campuses Career Athletes continues to branch out creating a diverse network through new schools and new promotions. Career Athletes provides individuals on affiliated campuses with internships and hands-on experience in promotion and public relations. Through the freedom of creating their own media strategies, interns have the ability to learn and create wide networks in the field they want to pursue. These interns represent Career Athlete's fundamentals of connecting to a job network and leaving with the advice and guidance to succeed.
“College students in today's world are connected through the web in everything they do,” said MSU Career Athletes intern and Bobcat golfer, Elise Nelson. “We've never learned how to look for jobs through newspapers or classifieds. Career Athletes connects to our demographic as it is similar to the social media we use in our daily lives and are so fond of. This is a career resource that is perfect.”
MSU student-athletes will get the chance to speak to CA representatives in March and get one- on-one guidance in interviewing and resume` skills. Topics covered in the seminar are: knowing your competition; identifying skills learned through athletic preparation and how to use these skills to your advantage after graduation; networking' preparation for an interview; and how to differentiate yourself from others.
