Bobcat Skiers Post Three Top 10s at NCAA West Regional

The Montana State ski team recorded three top ten finishes at the first day of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association/NCAA West Region Championships, Friday afternoon.

The Montana State ski team recorded three top ten finishes at the first day of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association/NCAA West Region Championships, Friday afternoon.

Chris Barber continued his outstanding season finishing sixth in the men's giant slalom with a two-run total of 2:04.32, while Nordic standouts Tyler Reinking and Ase Carlson finished ninth and tenth, respectively in the freestyle events.

As a team, the Bobcats sit in sixth place after four races with 315 points. Utah is atop the standings with 447 points, followed by Colorado 434.5, New Mexico 387.5, Denver 372, Alaska-Anchorage 352, MSU, and Westminster 187.

MSU's strongest performance came in the men's GS as Geoff Irwin just missed a top ten showing placing 12th overall in 2:05.13. Other Bobcat contributors included Ryan McConnell, 23rd, 2:09.58; Paul Britvar, 25th, 2:11.30; and Chet Cook, 29th, 2:40.62. Mike Mackie did not finish his second run.

Utah's Jeremy Elliot won the men's crown in 2:03.26.

In women's slalom action, MSU was paced by newcomer Marissa Riopelle, who placed 13th in 1:31.90. She was followed by Terra Moran, 15th, 1:32.43 and Ali Leighton, 22nd, 1:37.62.

Hannah Victory and Karen Bell did not finish their second run of the day.

Reinking, a 2010 All American, led the MSU men's Nordic team finishing the 10-kilometer freestyle course in 32:12.5. He was followed in the Bobcats' top three by Ryan Scott, 21st, 35:07.2; and Bernhard Roenning, 23rd, 35:48.1.

Other finishers for MSU included Luke Bromley, 24th, 35:56.5; and Drew Scott, 25th, 36:01.5.

Carlson guided the women's Nordic contingent placing tenth in 18:35.5. She was followed in MSU's top
three by Melina Park, 13th, 18:49.1; and Jessica Yeaton, 19th, 19:14.8.

The RMISA/NCAA West Region Championship will conclude on Saturday.
