The University of Idaho handed the Montana State volleyball squad a 25-4, 25-14, 25-23 setback on Sunday afternoon to conclude MSU’s final non-conference road swing prior to the start of the Big Sky Conference season.

Idaho (3-4) opened the match breaking away from a 3-all tie with a 22-1 run to cruise to the first set victory. The second stanza also belonged to the Vandals as UI outhit Montana State (5-5) .394 to .083.
In the final set, the Bobcats held a 17-13 advantage following a Rachelle Allen kill, but Idaho rattled off an 8-1 run to take the lead for good. MSU closed to within 24-23 on a block by Taylar Barney and Alex Penewell, but the Vandals closed out the match on a Julia Church kill.
Allen paced MSU in the loss with a team-high nine kills, while adding seven digs. Barney finished with seven kills and a block and sophomore setter Jennifer Lundquist dished out 19 assists. Libero Meghan Albiston paced MSU with a team-best 11 digs.
Montana State will open its Big Sky Conference slate when it hosts defending regular-season champion Portland State on Friday at 7 p.m. in Shroyer Gym.
