12:41 Moderator: In addition to everything else, MSU just completed the draft for the spring game. The teams will be posted at msubobcats.com later this afternoon. I'll ruin the surprise by disclosing that Denarius McGhee was the first pick in the draft, Shelby's Kevin Steiner was Mr. Irrelevant, and today's first chat guest will coach the Blue team, featuring the aforementioned Mr. McGhee.
Coach Marshall should be along momentarily.

How has the linebacker group come along this spring? There seems to be a lot of youth/inexperience especially OLB opposite Owens. Do you see any of the incoming freshman pushing for major playing time in the fall?
Thursday April 22, 2010 12:43 Brian
12:43 JM: Hi guys, thanks for being here. A lot of young guys are gaining experience, but some of them have a long ways to go. I think we have to hope that one of the incoming freshmen can help fill some depth.

How is Shaquille doing in converting to MLB?
Thursday April 22, 2010 12:43 Dave
12:44 JM: He got shorted because he ended up getting hurt. He only worked there for two weeks, so it remains a work in progress that was halted with injuries. It's still a big question mark what he can actually do.

What about Kirk in the RB position, how do you see him on the depth chart this fall?
Thursday April 22, 2010 12:46 Rob Swenson
12:47 JM: I think he's had a great spring camp. I can't comment on the offensive side in terms of the depth chart, but he's done really, really good.

Assume you were the d coordinator for the Rams and could draft any Bobcat defensive player No. 1. Who would you pick and why?
Thursday April 22, 2010 12:51 Bud Grant
12:52 JM: Dane Fletcher. He's a playmaker. That's obvious.

If the season started tomorrow, who would be starting in the secondary...specifically at CB?
Thursday April 22, 2010 12:52 Steve
12:55 JM: Assuming that everyone is healthy, which isn't the case right now, but if it were we'd start Arnold Briggs, but we just aren't ready to make a decision on the other side. Darius Jones and Zach Coleman both played last fall, and they both deserve the opportunity to compete for the job during fall camp. Neither have played in the spring, so it just wouldn't be fair to pick one of them right now.

What about current player?
Thursday April 22, 2010 12:56 Bud Grant
12:57 We didn't have any underclassmen declare, so I'm not worrying about it! Seriously, I'm not going to make that pick. All of our current players have a lot of college football ahead of them.

Who's our next Buchanan Award candidate?
Thursday April 22, 2010 1:05 Bob
1:07 JM: Dan Ogden. He is a productive inside player. Brad Smith is that kind of player when he's healthy. Ogden is a returning all-conference guy who has had an outstanding career. The key thing is for guys to stay healthy for 11 games.

How is Chris Wilson progressing?
Thursday April 22, 2010 1:07 Dan
1:08 Very slowly, because he was hurt most of the spring. He's just getting back into it and he has a lot of ability, but he basically had to start over.

1:09 Who is MSU's next Buchanan Award candidate?
( 33% )Brad Smith
( 67% )Zach Minter
( 0% )Isn't presently in the program

What steps are being done to try and curb injuries and what as a fan can I do to end the curse?
Thursday April 22, 2010 1:12 Dan
1:15 JM: We tried to lighten the amount of contact during the last couple of weeks of spring ball with lighter tempo during our team segments. That stuff is good, but at the same time that means we're not practicing tackling, which is an important fundamental in the game of football, obviously. As far as the curse... what curse? I don't know. Maybe something like Jobu from the movie Major League?

How is Christian Keliei (sp?) coming along?
Thursday April 22, 2010 1:19 Steve
1:20 JM: He has his days. There are times when he looks like he has a lot of promise and other times he looks like he has a long way to go, but we have to keep in mind that he's a young player. He's a true freshman and still does a lot of freshman things, but he's gotten better this spring. He just needs to be more consistent.

We know that UM will be running the Oregon spread-style offense now. What are the keys to stopping it?
Thursday April 22, 2010 1:21 Steve
1:23 JM: One, I've heard they're going to run the Oregon style of offense, but until we actually see what it is we won't know for sure. I'm guessing we'll have to play disciplined, assignment-sound football, because I'm guessing there will be elements of zone read option. But we won't know until the season starts. We see enough of that style of offense that we've built things into our defense to deal with it.

1:27 JM: Thanks guys. Back to meetings to get ready for Saturday's scrimmage and tomorrow's practice. See you all on Saturday!
