Kayla McGearty serves as the Academic Coordinator/Tutor Coordinator for Montana State Athletics Student Services, a role she began in June 2024. In her position, McGearty oversees the tutoring program for student-athletes, including hiring and managing tutors, coordinating academic appointments, and supporting the overall academic success of Montana State student-athletes.
As an Academic Coordinator, she works directly with the golf program and football defense, providing academic oversight and support to ensure student-athletes remain on track toward their educational goals. Her role focuses on fostering academic accountability, organization, and student development within the athletic department.
Prior to joining Montana State Athletics, McGearty built a strong background in education within the Bozeman Public School system. She served as a 9-12 English teacher at Bozeman Public Schools, teaching at Bozeman High School from 2018 to 2021 and Gallatin High School from 2021 to 2024.
McGearty earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Montana State University in 2015 and later completed a Master of Arts in Reading with an Emphasis in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University in 2022. She also holds an active Montana Secondary Teaching Certificate for grades 5–12 with an English Teaching Endorsement and is currently enrolled in the Library Media Certificate Program at Montana State University.
Kayla resides in Bozeman with her husband, Chase Vajner, her son, Callen, and their three dogs: Kenny and Captain, both Pembroke Welsh Corgis, and Ozzy, a Cocker Spaniel Shih Tzu mix.
