Adam St. Pierre is in his sixth season with Montana State University after joining the Nordic program prior to the 2021 season.
In 2026, Simon Chappaz was a standout on the Nordic team, earning second-team All-America honors with an eight place finish at the NCAA Championships, helping the Bobcats to their best postseason result in program history. Under St. Pierre’s guidance, Chappaz was named the RMISA Freestyle MVP.
St. Pierre’s skiers earned seven All-RMISA honors in 2025, led by first-team selects Grey Barbier, Gavin Galyardt, Katey Houser, Kate Oldham and Anna Pryce. Oldham and Houser went on to be named second-team All-America selects after placing amongst the top finishers at the NCAA Championships in New Hampshire.
In 2024, St. Pierre coached an All-American duo in Tilde Bangman and Kate Oldham, who each earned first-team honors while the Bobcats earned a fifth place finish at the NCAA Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colo. Bangman also earned a spot on the All-America second team, alongside Fredrik Nilsen and Gianluca Bohm. Bangman and Oldham also took home respective RMISA titles in the classic and freestyle disciplines.
During his first three seasons on the University hill, St. Pierre helped the Bobcats to a fifth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Skiing Championships in New Hampshire; a ninth place showing at the 2022 NCAAs in Park City, and a sixth place finish in 2023 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Before making the move to Bozeman, St. Pierre, served as Cross Country Sport Coordinator for U.S. Ski & Snowboard. At U.S. Ski & Snowboard, St. Pierre participated in a six-person decision-making team and managed communications on the impacts of COVID-19 and other emerging issues. In addition, he developed educational materials for cross country skiing and managed and publicized a nationwide race calendar, working closely with ten divisional leaders. St. Pierre also maintained points lists for Olympic Winter Games, World Ski Championships, and other international events.
From 2006-2019, St. Pierre was the head coach of the Boulder (CO) Nordic Junior Racing Team. As head coach, he planned and supervised dry-land and on-snow practices for skiers ages 8-19; recruited, trained and managed a staff of 8-12 assistant coaches; taught technique, fitness and race strategies; coordinated and provided race-day support and logistics; organized multi-day training camps, including physiological testing, dry-land and on-snow workouts, and educational components; and worked with a volunteer board to budget, fundraise and create programs to ensure the future success of the team.
St. Pierre, who skied collegiately at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, also served as divisional coordinator of Rocky Mountain Nordic where he oversaw the teams’ logistics, coaching staff selection and budget, as well as maintained the race calendar and points lists for junior national qualification and regional championships. He was also an expert coach for Carmichael Training Systems, which provided remote coaching to 35-55 athletes at a time, ranging from recreational to world-championship-level and including Nordic skiers, runners, and ski mountaineers.
St. Pierre has served as a junior coach for the World Junior Ski Championships in Goms, Switzerland in 2018; as coach and USA Team Leader for the Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, 2016; and as coach and trip leader for NNF U18 Nation’s Cup in Scandinavia, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
From 2007-2015, he was an exercise physiologist, bio-mechanist, and coach at the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, which is now the CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center.
St. Pierre was an assistant ski coach at Bowdoin College from 2004-2006. He earned his master’s degree in kinesiology from the University of New Hampshire in 2006, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in physics from Colby College in 2004.
St. Pierre has also moonlighted coaching adult athletes in running (primarily trail and ultra-running), SkiMountaineering, and other endurance sports. In recent years, he has served as the XC Sport Coordinator for U.S. Ski & Snowboard and helped develop coaching education materials.
After moving to Colorado, he found a passion for long trail runs and has since trained for and competed in long (50k-100 miles) mountain running races like the HardRock100, SuperiorTrail100, Wasatch100, and WesternStates100.
He and his wife Alison, along with their two children, Finley, and Cordelia, enjoy hiking, biking, and skiing together in the mountains of Montana.
